68.01 percent of us google searches between january and april ended without a single click.
the condition is a front door that moved while the building stayed where it was. sparktoro's study, published 9 june, puts the us zero click rate at 68.01 percent for january to april 2026 against 60.45 percent in 2024, a 7.56 point move in two years, and against 50.33 percent in 2019. ai overviews now appear on more than 20 percent of searches and cut click through on those results by close to 60 percent. the cost is not a traffic number, it is a strategy that quietly expired: every dollar in your site is allocated on the assumption that a person arrives, reads and decides, and increasingly the thing that arrives is a model deciding whether to mention you at all, which does not scroll, does not feel your typography and cannot cite a feeling. if the page is atmosphere, there is nothing in it to quote.
the fake fix is another redesign, which buys a look when the buyer wanted an answer, and a look does not survive being summarised. write the specifics down in plain sentences where they can be retrieved: what you do, who you do it for, what it costs, where you operate, what you will not take on. one page, no hedging, no cleverness. a company that publishes facts gets cited. a company that publishes a mood gets summarised into somebody else's paragraph.
do this: publish the specifics in sentences a machine can quote. not this: buy another homepage animation that hides the price.
